This is something I could never understand !
Folks go on so much about regular oil changes and what oil to use in their engines to get the best performance or to make the engine last longer. Yet with brake fluid which I class as safety related the same folks either don’t bother or change the fluid only do so when they have to. Regular brake fluid change is a must for me and by that with a lower mileage it may be two or even three years but at least I change it. BTW the same goes for coolant and even windscreen wash. Have you seen the bacteria that can build up in that reservoir. |

To the T4 question re: changing brake fluid. Changing brake fluid should include bleeding. It might be possible to change brake fluid without bleeding, but that is not the way to do it. When bleeding without the T4, there have been soft or sinking pedal issues reported. The T4 allows the ABS controller to be included in the bleeding to ensure the air is out of that, as well. There could be thousands of cars out there with sinking brake pedals - millions even - since it isn't a Rover issue, but an ABS issue.
Cheers, Glenn

I wonder how many well serviced 75/ZTs get a brake fluid change with a T4? Very few I'd suggest. I've also read about the need for a T4 so that the ABS unit can be fully purged (of air that is). Not withstanding this apparent need, the MGR Workshop Manual makes no mention of T4 in the brake bleeding section. There's also no mention of T4 in the section covering ABS module replacement. However, the T4 manual covers its use in brake bleeding/purging, so clearly a deal of ambiguity here.
EDIT This and the sinking pedal phenomenon (search term SPP) is also discussed in some detail in the following link. The post by derek999 is interesting. Click:https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=63314 TC Last edited by T-Cut; 25th January 2019 at 16:56.. |

I change my brake fluid every two years. Never used T4 for this. My brake pedal has never ‘gone soft’, and my brakes work very well thank you. It is also partly changed when I put new pads in through bleeding some off to make way for the thicker pads, then bled properly. My wife is my accomplice on the pedal for this.
