One more FBH question if I may
Despite stripping my FBH down either this year or last I dont knowingly know the answer.
Can the glow plug be changed without removing the FBH from the car and without losing any coolant? I've removed the cover from what I think is the fan expecting to see a number of screws but there is only 1 which makes me think the whole thing has to be removed Having tested 3 glow plugs, 2 are 5 ohm and the one on the FBH that is not working is 6 ohm. I put 12v across the pump and it seemed to work. Wish glow plugs were cheaper macafee2 Last edited by macafee2; 21st November 2019 at 14:27.. |

I don't think You can do it without coolant loss, as You have to remove the fan unit to access the burner and that means removing the coolant pipes anyway.. Bleeding it is easy, replace lower coolant pipe 1st and fill the FBH with coolant via the upper pipe connection then fill the upper pipe and reconnect it whilst squeezing the end of it to minimise loss then run the FBH and open the bleed valve and top up header tank as required.

As Lee says cant be done without some disconnection, get some plastic pipe clamps and clamp them on the FBH water inlet and outlet pipes before you remove them, you will still lose some coolant out of the FBH but will minimise the loss from elsewhere, once the FBH is off the car make sure the coolant pipes are facing up.
