Question Handbrake shoes - grease for contact points

What is the charcoal coloured grease used here (arrowed)?

These new backplates are now re-painted and on the car but I haven't put anything on the shoe contact points yet. Haynes page 9*14 just says use "high temperature brake grease or anti-seize compound".

I've got some Bremtech Pad Goo but I'm not sure it's the right stuff for the metal edges of handbrake shoes. It's clear and not charcoal/graphite coloured as per the heavy duty looking stuff in the pic.

I have used copper grease brushed on with an old oil painting brush I keep in the tub. Just a thin smear. Those points are to allow the shoes to move freely and not seize, whilst protecting the metal to metal contact. Too much, and you run the risk of getting it onto the ABS sensors, which obviously cause issues (as copper grease is conductive).

According to the official-looking sales information given, Bremtech Pad Goo can be used on the back and edges of brake pads. With that in mind, why are you doubtful about using it on the edges of brake shoes?

Because the charcoal coloured stuff that was on them when they were supplied (they were new) has a much tougher, more resilient consistency than Pad Goo. It's really dense and doesn't look like it'll wash off, whereas Pad Goo does.

Pad Goo is clear and the consistency is more like Tesco handwash than brake grease.

Use Copaslip, and by that I mean real Copaslip and not generic "copper grease"

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results of all of your hard work with this car.

I still have a tube, bought years ago, of Girling green mechanical brake grease. Have you scoured the marketplace for such alternatives?

So Comma Copper Ease is not as good? I only ask because I've already got a tub, whereas I haven't got any Copaslip and would have to wait for it to arrive.

Reviews - 86% 5 star: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-CE500.../dp/B003BPNOFO

PS. I'll put some pics up when it's all finished (the rear end) - next step will be the front end. The middle bit doesn't really count 'cos it's just a flat bit with not much bolted to it

No, I've been too busy with the rest of it (subframe etc) and I've only just reached the brakes.
