thermostat housing/inlet manifold
Hi All,
Looks like I have a thermostat housing change on my hands (had a coolant leak for a while with water in "v") yesterday. though it was coming out faster than I could put it in. Point is car has developed dreaded rattle from top of engine, I have a spare manifold I took from a car I scrapped and a gentle shake does not generate any nasty noises, so it seems sensible to do both jobs together. I would appreciate any advice on job and any nasties that might arise. Noticed spare manifold has detachable cover on it, can this be removed for a peek inside without causing damage. Wally |

thermostat housing
Hi Kaiser
Thanks for reply,in end decided to do just thermostat housing(just to hot to be outside to long,we Brits are wimps)The housing and plastic pipes virtually fell to pieces and the longest job was digging the remains out of the apertures in the block and putting correct " O"rings on fittings ,did find that replacing pipe and housing locating bolt with 10mm ss stud helped assembly. Glad you managed the stat ok, like you said, if the manifold doesn't rattle when you shake it, then its usually ok.

thermostat housing
Hi Kaiser
No items were shot and unusable,an outfit I joined at fifteen called the RAF taught me to do things correctly whether it was a Chipmunk ,VC10 Hercules or whatever and it has stayed that way ever since. Wally |

Saw a Vulcan here once, in the distance. I have never seen so much smoke from any other aircraft, really remarkable and likely also unusual?. A friend of mine has two hunters, a single and a double seater. Never been in one, should maybe get a lift one day. Not paying for fuel though. About Pounds 2000 an hour! Makes the Rover look like a mosquito. Flies like a butterfly, stings like a mosquito and packs no punch

The Vulcan uses the RR Olympus engines and they are famous for there smokiness. They even went into the Concord which really did help the sales people NOT!
