OEM towbar keys
I have just acquired an OEM detachable towbar. Some have said it was made Brink, while others have suggested Westfalia. Either way, I'm having some difficultly in obtaining a key for it, and no one seems to recognise or be able cut one from the numbers stamped on the front face of the barrel.
Can anyone shed any light on the issue please? Last edited by Andy_Shaw; 15th May 2020 at 17:32.. |

Andy,
You need a 2Dxxx key,, various places available. K I have such a bar on my Tourer. I agree it looks like a diagonal Brinks https://www.replacementkeys.co.uk/st...s-to-code.html £3.95 Last edited by KWIL; 16th May 2020 at 16:04.. |

I used a trader on ebay .... keys_by_post .... for some desk and office keys - very fast service.
I would be surprised if they cannot help you out. |

I had the same issue when I got my detachable towbar which I fitted on my old saloon. I tried a few places for keys and then discovered the lock can be removed and it’ll still work as designed.
I never left it on the car so key wasn’t really required.

I leave my tow bar on the car, deters close parkers, you might say it could leave an impression upon them rather than damage my paint!
If not locked it could become loose but unlikely. |

Thats exactly my view, won't stop a full on collision but will alert careless supermarket parkers to the fact they are damaging their bumper rather than mine. A crude form of parking sensor for the offending car really.

I've just ordered one of those 2Dxxx keys for the lock on the Factory tow bar I got for my Tourer that came without a key from Fastkeys.
Does anyone know where I can get a key to unlock the factory locking roof bars that go across the roof ? They too have a three digit code engraved next to the keyhole like the tow bar did. They wouldn't also be a 2Dxxx key would they ? I got the roof cross bars, from a Tourer being scrapped, already connected to the lengthwise bars that bolt to roof of Tourer. I can swap the whole thing off and on car when I need the cross bars but it's a bit of a faff and would be so much easier if I had a key. Plus the cross bars when fitted make an annoying hum when car is driven at any speed over 30mph so don't want to leave them on all the time |
