An unused IKP will install OK using a T4 to transfer the VIN data etc. The important thing is not to fit the new IKP before you get to the T4. If the new IKP records a distance over a preset mileage, it will be rejected by the T4. Have the new IKP fitted at the T4 location to ensure compliance. It's only a few screws, so little cost.

so do i have this right,
1, it will physically fit and plug straight in
2, it does not matter that it was meant to go in a newer car so long as i get it programmed by my local rover dealer

what about calibration? ie for example if original speedo said 150mph and new one said 160mph would after programming to car the speedo be correct

No problem with calibration etc, being a later vehice the back light illumination may be white instead of orange
