Self Servicing.

I've read with interest the info members have writen about self servicing, before anyone says anything I'm talking about on the car ok? Question is, if I change filters,oil,fluids, etc, do I have to go down the " T4" route or can I do without going there? OR. Can I change the filters, oil, fluids myself and take the car to a "T4" garage for them to do that bit? What I'm concerned about is that a garage doing what they say is a full service and missing things out that are on Rover service sheets.

You do not need T4 other than to diagnose faults etc.
The service interval counter on the dash can be reset with a two a short length of wire.

I've seen them service interval reset tools on Ebay. Do you think it would be better to have one of those? Are they any good? Which one is best?

I have just bought a reset tool, the one with a black box atttached to the OBD11 socket.
It works very well, it cost about £11.99 plus p&p on ebay.

You can do it with a piece of wire. Don't bother with a tool, £12 for a piece of wire in a box. Look in the members area under DATA then HOW TO and the PDF file "Resetting the service interval counter". Mine does not quite work like that but where to put the wire and the rest works fine. I have re set mine now twice. The How To's are very good. It's easy.

From what I've read on various forums using the "paper clip" suggestion can cause fuses to blow. Now if this is right then to me that's a bit to amateurish and a back street garage way of going about it. On a personal note I'm going to get me a plugin type affair.
This is a personal observation so I don't want any hissy fits with dummies and tedbears flying all over the place.

But it's not right. But if you feel uneasy about it you had better go for the none Rover made after market box. My car cost over 25 grand new, one doesn't just stuff paper clips into the OBD socket just willy nilly you know.

Some Rover garages did. It was faster.

and some franchised dealers do not have the special tools specified in the manuals as a must for certain jobs.
