The Auto Levelling just works at start up doesnt it?

Where it detects the angle of the car according to how much load it has in it, rather than adjusting constantly over every single undulation in the road ?

Yes! You turn the ignition on, the car reads the sensors, adjusting the beams to match the measured front to back deflection and that is how they remain set until the next start up.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

They do as you say Auto adjust when started up.

A big thanks to Simon for pm'ing me with a link to this thread as he'd noticed I'd uploaded some photo's to my gallery. Fantastic get an answer to a question before you've even posted it .

I'd noticed on the journey home from the Loch Lomond meet that the dip beams were rather low to the extent I had to reduce my speed on unlit roads. I hadn't used the car during darkness since at least September.

Not been able to have a look at the problem until yesterday due to the naff weather and my back playing up. First checked the rear sensor which looks OK but after reading this will be at least lubricating it

Then I had a look at the front one and found it in this state

you can see it's reversed and has been sitting on the suspension arm

managed to reverse it and straighten it partly

but I think when time allows I'll remove it and straighten the arm properly - looks like rain at the moment so probably not today.

Not sure about the mentioned fix of putting the arm in the freezer as I would have thought the plastic would become brittle, I was going to use a bit of gentle heat from a hotgun whilst clamping the arm in a vice. Heats mentioned on other forums as a way to return the arm to it's correct shape.

Thanks again Simon.

The manually adjustable ones go back to the setting of the wheel switch on the LSM after the initial movement after being switched on.

The auto adjust ones are constantly being adjusted by the sensors through the movement of the suspension, by the loading or undulating road surface.

J1mbo,

Have you read this post link, I had a similar problem and it was the wiring shorting - a quick fix that sometimes works is to get hold of the wiring loom just behind the driver side headlight and flex it up a little - then check if the self leveling is working.

Tommy :-)
