Or you could buy a lovely petrol V6 and enjoy clean exhausts and a wonderful burble! You will need a larger wallet for the fuel bills though!

Block the egr valve off with a 2p coin and some chemical metal, make sure pcv and air filters are ok, if still not ok then a manifold clean making sure to clean MAP sensor.

A decent fuel cleaner and a mechanic's road test will also help

Also, check the plastic end of the intercooler where the mounting lug is (Looking from the front of the car - LH side) I have seen these crack and leave a small hole in the intercooler.

Check the large Jubilee clip on the EGR hose is really tight: mine blew off going up Telegraph Hill west of Exeter. Didn't 'arf smoke that one.

Cheers guys, ordered the o-rings and fitted today. Whole section was covered in soot and the old seals were about 50% larger than they should have been so I reckon we found our culprit. Feels better to drive already
