Not sure of the exact situation on the ground Phil but what about a Christmas party for the staff and their kids to try to foster good relations with them and the local community? As per my fathers old works, staff contribute cash over the year for it and works chip in too with a bit of cash to match and the provision of the canteen for the venue. Staff largely organize and prepare for the event in their own time and man it for its duration and the clean up after.

Some people I think are simply born rotten and beyond help and my suggestion might not help with the thieves who are targeting you. But if it is poverty related, well a bit of understanding and kindness might work for all.

Cool

Morning everyone.

Rain is the forecast today but I’m hoping I can get Banana washed. Very dirty from the weekend away.

I moved the trail cameras myself climbing trees to do it without involving any of the staff. It is a matter of time before the villain is photographed/caught.

What would you do to the villain on catching him?

Thanks Steve for those helpful suggestions, much appreciated and how very kind of your Fathers works place to be generous to the community like that.

Throughout the year we look after the staff, pay their hospital bills when they get sick and if they die, we contribute to the funeral costs. They all get a bonus at Christmas. We won’t be organising a party for the locals, as we don’t want strangers coming to the property. Some come to the gate, regulars looking for milk from our cows or I sometimes meet strangers in our forest looking for firewood. That and one of the geese disappearing at Christmas, I turn a blind eye to. We have a bull to kill and afterwards, the bull is divided for the meat which goes to the staff.

We won’t be involving the police unless we have to. Most of the police are corrupt and if we need them we would have to go the police station to pick them up. They can get quite nasty if they are not paid for coming, plus the risk of them torturing or executing the burglars, then reprisals. Ideally the elder Chief of the village will deal with him/them, once he has been photographed or caught. It’s not ideal, but we are 3rd world and it’s life.

In South Africa, we had a lot of experience in dealing with robbers, worse than in Kenya. In South Africa we had to involve the police - armed response who were better organised, had cars, radios and dogs.

Morning all - it's been quite frosty overnight up here, so it's pretty cold out there. Manic day for me today - 11.00am appointment with the Diabetes Nurse for the results of my blood test and annual review; 11.45am off to my Club to help with preparations for our annual presentation night tonight; 6.00pm back to the Club for the event itself - and in between all that there's the question of the washing machine to try and sort
As you may have seen in the news, Whirlpool are recalling over 500,000 washing machines because of a fault which may cause them to go up in flames (shades of the tumble dryer problem with the same company's products).
So, there's a website to check if your machine is one of those affected, or a telephone number to contact as an option.
The website - has never worked since they opened it yesterday
The phone number - is showing as "number unavailable" - and even if it becomes available, you can imagine, with the number of people affected, that it won't be easy to get to talk to someone.
So the only helpful advice from the manufacturers is either:
Unplug the washing machine and don't use it - cue lots of smelly, unwashed clothing
Use it on a 20° wash only - might as well just run the cold tap and wash by hand in the sink
