Default Gunk Degreaser

Hello Chaps,

Quick non ZT 75 related question, but engine related. I have a Stihl Saw I bought from a carboot which was non working. Thought it was a blockage on the carb but its not, anyways I have stripped the carb down to replace the seals etc but thought I'd give it a clean before putting it bact together. Is it safe to use Gunk when the internals of the engine are exposed, including cylinder and piston? If not any suggestions what to clean it with? We have a combination of dirt, grease, concrete dust clinging to the engine. I could rinse thoroughly with water but worried about rust issues.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I would not have thought that it would do any harm as long as it was properly cleaned and lightly oiled after wards

I manage a tool hire shop and when we clean stihl saws we first take of the top cover to expose the engine, we then pressure wash it to remove all the stone dust etc, we then spray with WD 40 to get rid of the moisture. The engine can then be stripped with no contamination to the internals. The most common fault for non starting on these is any slight scoring to the barrel or piston.

There was a bit of crud in the engine when I opened it, might be worth me getting a new cylinder then as the piston rings were broke.

Non genuine pot and piston with rings comes out at about £45. This is the way I would go.
