What is the overall benefit of these Downpipe Restraint Brackets?
All SIX MG ZT 1.8Ts I've worked on have this component removed before I bought them.
I have since bought and fitted that one to my daily driver ZT-T 1.8T. Apart from the obvious benefit, is one benefit less stress on the Exhaust Pipe flexi-joint or, more stress? It most certainly holds the Exhaust Downpipe securely attached to the Sump. The bracket assembly costs a shade under £30 from Rimmer Bros posted. Last edited by Abott10; 18th February 2020 at 13:12.. I reckon it reduces fatigue around the bend on the downpipe.

Mine snapped at some stage and the extra movement it allowed eventually shook loose the exhaust manifold bolts. Garage welded it back together and fitted new gasket and has been fine since.
