Bosch and other brand filters (diesel)
Just a quick question, our diesel tourer is due another service and was wondering about getting my filters from car parts for less, they have various brands, crosland,Bosch, mahle mann etc.
Has anyone any experience with the Bosch filters? Air filter, fuel filter, oil filter ? As for oil, Im thinking of going for shell helix hx7 10w40 (blue bottle) a3b4 stuff. Thanks Rob |

Bosch are absolutely oem industry standard and it's what I exclusively fit to my parents vehicles for extended servicing etc.
Very good quality and never an issue, however I would suggest these instead as equally good brands and save a few pennies on parts. Rover 75 cabin filter (None carbon) - Borg & Beck https://amzn.to/3XzbQ6H Rover 75 carbon cabin filter - Febi https://amzn.to/3XAab0s Rover 75 diesel oil filter - Febi https://amzn.to/48bReFq Rover 75 diesel fuel filter - Bosch https://amzn.to/3w48ijc Rover 75 diesel air filter - Borg & Beck https://amzn.to/3CXdgyp Female Torx set - used with pcv filter removal https://amzn.to/3rb1ldP Rover 75 / MG ZT / Freelander / E46 PCV filter bypass https://amzn.to/3NSaYqy All of the above will be exactly what you need and a nice video showing you how to do everything below. https://youtu.be/XgF_CF81poM Don't get caught out accidentally buying the Freelander fuel filter, as it has a large drain plug underneath which raises it up significantly against the under bonnet insulation. The correct 75 one does not.

Thanks both for the much valued links and information.
The original question came about from not wanting to become solely reliant upon a specialist for such parts, this also in turn allows me to not only choose what brand filters I want on my car but I'm also aware of what brand I'm potentially purchasing prior to actually purchasing. Such specialists appear not to state what the actual brands are. I have a BMW vortex type pcv on my tourer along with the egr blanked. Having done quite a number of comparisons I've found carparts4less do all the Bosch filters (fuel air oil and cabin filters along with 7 litres of shell helix hx7 10w40 for £108 (filters on there own at £56). Which all things considered I don't think is too bad. (Discount code payday24). I don't mind paying that bit extra for quality products, I understand Bosch are an OEM supplier just wondered if anyone else has any experience of them and any issues they may have had. That mannol 20l oil seems like a bargain but have heard horror stories of counterfeit mannol products damaging engines. How have you found it arctic? As mannol is something I've considered. Currently I have triple qx 5w40 in and can't say I'm convinced about the 5w40 , can't imagine after 12k miles that the viscocity will be the same as brand new 5w40 anymore. At least with the 10w40 after 10k miles or more it may have reduced in viscosity to somewhere around the 5w40 as it breaks down etc. The oil now is starting to look like black dish water, on a previous service I used Castrol magnatec and after 14k miles dont remember that being so thin (Castrol was 10w40). Thanks Rob |
