Slave is on its way out, will fail suddenly if you don't get there first. Mine lasted 10,000 odd, it failed before I got to it.
Question is, do you replace the clutch at the same time? |

Guess so... from memory, it costs a fortune in labour to get to the slave, and it's the same job getting to the clutch - cost of an actual clutch isn't a lot by comparison, IIRC, so may as well do it. Bit {naughty word} off if it only lasted something like 40,000 from last time though

Just looking back at old receipts. In 2013 the slave cylinder and clutch pressure plate were replaced at 135k miles. I was wrong with my original post.
So if it is the slave, its only lasted barely 66k with car now on 201k. Didn't last long and cost a small fortune to do too, not sure if its worth doing again. |

However... every time I think about getting rid of the old tub, I ask myself where else would I get a motor of anything like comparable spec for less than £10-15k...

If you're not excessively heavy on the clutch it should do 100k plus, mine was replaced when the slave died at 80k and it was around half worn. So no, if the pressure plate fingers are fine leave it alone - how many more years are you planning to keep it? Not many if just a clutch is making you think about it?

I've just done the clutch on my ZT-T V6 for the very same reason.
In all fairness, it had been making a noise for a little while but as I knew what the problem was so I just didn't drive it too far as eventually, the longer I drove it, the softer the pedal got due to fluid leakage on the slave. I finally got around to putting it right! |

I had that noise on my ZT and it only lasted 5 miles. Then stranded at the foot of a narrow bridge with 30 cars behind me who couldnt get past!
If you can afford it get it done asap. I still have nightmares now about it! |
