Default 3D on PS3

Having recently acquired a 3D TV (see other thread in this section!) I am now keen to see what the PS3 is like with it!

We don't have any 3D blurays yet, and only one 3D compatible game, but I'm wondering if we might need a different cable to connect the games console and TV? Currently using one which is HDMI at the PS3 end, and erm, not at the other. Forget the name but it's red, yellow and white phono style plugs which used to go into a SCART adapter on the old TV. So, guessing I need HDMI both ends now?

On a similar topic, would be nice if I could get a long SCART cable with old style one end, mini at the other, rather than using an adapter for the Sky box, but that's another story....

Components are the red/yellow/white leads.
Yes you will need HDMI to get the best quality from the 3D, I think it would work with anything but why spend on the kit and miss the lead.

Hi,
You will need to use a Hdmi lead for 3d films and game playing.
The Hdmi lead must be version 1.4 as well to be compatible with 3d playback.
Hdmi leads have their specification written on the packaging

The lead you are using at the moment is a composite video lead, the other end won't be a hdmi but Sony's own proprietary connector.
Hdmi is a digital only lead and as such does not carry video signals only data that is then converted back to picture and sound by the display/tv.
Hope that helps

Sorry but you do have to use Hdmi for the 3d and it must be version 1.4.
That is not the case with Sky and their Hd boxes as they run a different version of 3d tech in their Hd boxes so they only require 1.3 Hdmi leads.
Pretty much everything else requires a 1.4 lead
Got to love confused standards in the electronics industry!!

Yet 1.3 hdmi leads work as one of ours is 1.3 and the other is 1.4?

On the Ps3 or something else?
The other problem is that some leads don't get submitted for standards verification so although not showing the 1.4 version they are indeed wired that way.
The basics of the versions are that as companies have added features, 3d, return audio path, Ethernet etc they have had to add extra pins to the connector!

Ah fair enough, it's a bit of a mine field isn't it!

OP, sounds like it's best to get a verified 1.4 hdmi lead
