Default (Free) Anti-virus for Vista?

As per title. I always thought AVG antivirus software was free? Just been onto their website and it would seem it's now chargable after the 30-day trial period.

I'm after a free alternative for a friends laptop as their McAfea trial version that came with the laptop has now expired. Any thoughts/recommendations appreciated.

AVG have a habit of making it difficult to find the link to the free version and sometimes quicker to use a site such as majorgeeks.com who have a direct link to the free version on AVG's site.

There's all sorts of other free versions of software on there too.

I'm with AVG too. Still working OK for me, with no fees paid.

When AVG free expires they push you straight to a buy page. Ignor this and go and download the latest free version. I use it and like it.
