January last year I noticed I had a very bad oil leak coming from my intercooler and found the intercooler was leaking badly where the plastic sides join into the metal middle section. After looking into a new replacement, I found for the same cost I could fit a custom front mounted intercooler with custom stainless and silicone pipework which would look much better.
Took a while to work out where I'd route the pipes and what pipework I'd need, but managed to do it Was quite a bit of work and pretty fiddly but managed to get it all to fit. Seems to have made a noticeable difference, engine just feels like it's breathing better and more responsive, but some of that may be due to the boost pressure I was loosing with my old intercooler leaking. |

In February 2018 the worst happened, my typhoon was shunted from the rear at a roundabout by an idiot driving way too fast on approach to the roundabout.
The paintwork on the rear bumper was badly damaged on the offside, the rear bumper pod was taken off completely and the offside tailpipes were damaged and had to be replaced. Had a lot of headache getting this sorted, first with the insurance getting them to pay out for the repair and then being let down by the initial garage that was going to do the work who messed up with their quote. Luckily due to this I found out they were going to bodge the repair anyway so took the car back from them. After some recommendations through people I know, I took the car up to a sprayer in Newcastle to have the bumper resprayed. Next headache was the one place we could source typhoon from didn't match my original typhoon colour, the new paint was darker than the original so it the decision had to be made to either respray the whole car or not bother at all. Bit the bullet and went for the full respray. I also had a bit of very good luck, whilst the car was up at the body shop I managed to get hold of a set of genuine mki rear bumper pods, the proper plastic MG Rover ones which run right up to the rear bumper heat shields! Couldn't believe I managed to get hold of a set, as I'd been looking for some for the last 4 years. I think these are pretty rare as I've only ever seen them fitted to a couple cars and that was only in photos, never seen a set in person. So that was lucky and at the right time as well. This however did not go smoothly as although half of the car was done very well, the other half was done very badly. Took the car back to have the problems sorted only for it to be bodged and come back worse! However this week I took it to Daniel at Cleckheaton Body Repair who worked his magic and sorted all the bodges and badly painted and finished areas, and the respray is finally now done. Can see my full post on the finished respray here: https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=300123 |

London Classic Car Show
In February this year I was given the opportunity to display my Typhoon at the London Classic Car show at the Excel Exhibition Centre. This was a pretty big thing for me as it was the first time I was displaying it at a professional proper show. Was actually pretty nervous, as I really didn't know that the public would think of seeing a modern MG ZT among expensive classic cars like classic mustangs, ferraris, lamborghinis, sierra cosworths etc. In fact I had a bullitt replica mustang right next to my ZT.
Happily though it actually went really well and the ZT received huge amounts to attention to my surprise, and even though I didn't see it as show worthy condition compared to all the other cars there, it fit in very well. I uploaded a walk around video on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbbE...ature=youtu.be |

What's next?
Well now that the respray is done, and after all the mods I've done over the last 5 years and 9 months, there isn't really much more left to do now.
The car is being displayed at the NEC Classic Car Show in a couple weeks time which I'm really looking forward to. I'm really grateful for being asked to have this car on the stand, it'll bring a fantastic close to the year and a great way to tie off a year of headache trying to get the respray sorted. I do have a few more mods planned in time for the NEC which I hopefully will be able to get done, will post about those once they're done |
