Default Our Pilgrimage to Longbridge

On our way back from hols in Samois, France we wanted to get off the M6 south of Birmingham in order for me to visit Longbridge once again to see what had become of it.

The showroom is still there and some full time staff hanging around.

Ther was a big conference there a few weeks back for the Chineese, and I managed to snaffle some breifing notes written for the Chineese attending, on the history of MG cars.

No Rover stock left to speak of but wait.......
One of my dream cars was there as seen in various publicity literature.

Some pics:

Yes it's the only one in the world!
The showroom chap said there were no plans to build them at present.

I felt like driving it through the showroom window:lol:
It's a bit of a mock up though

Most of the windows are perspex and the Sat Nav stuff was all Mock up.
Don't know if I like the Americanised interior

That interior is a bit to "Bright" for me.
I think its going to be one of those, you either love it or hate it.
What a missed chance by Rover/MG.

It's a stunning looking car, and I'm sure if it makes the showrooms, would sell well.

Not keen on the interior, looks like they've skinned David Dickenson for the hide!

It could well have competed with the likes of Merc & Volvo coupes and even an own goal against BMW coupes

and that, in a nutshell (I think) is one of the reasons BMW wanted rid of Rover, as it stood a very good chance of taking thier own sales. Sort of maybe a little like Skoda taking a fair chunk from VW.....

of course, those are just my rambling thoughts.......
