Default Everyone rush and fit a new lower engine mount

I guess everyone who runs a diesel R75 with more than 100K miles on the clock wishes to reduce the vibration, thumps and rattles that do take the edge off driving our beloved. Last month I changed the lower suspension bushes - well to be strictly accurate I threw in the spanner after three days wrestling on my back and got my local garage to rescue me. That did help but there was more to do.

Still smarting after that failure I changed the lower engine mount today all by myself, and boy, has that improved matters. Several plusses. First it's a cheap bit - just £30 from DMGRS. Second the Longbridge engineers must have slipped up for it really is a 5 minute job - or no doubt 2 for the Gentleman on Tyneside. Just take the undertray off, undo the two 15mm bolts and swap the mount over, jiggling with a screwdriver from the back to align the bottom hole.

To be absolutely honest having bolted it up tight I spotted that the OEM had a nylon insert through the top hole, while the replacement hadn't. So I took it off to check but it was OK. No insert needed on the new mount.

The only mystery is that the OEM looked absolutely A1 but maybe the rubber after 15 years had become too hard. Who knows?

I changed mine when trying to eliminate clutch judder on take-off. It wasn't the problem, and it didn't look bad, until, having removed it, I inserted a screwdriver through the bushes and wiggled it around, opening up cracks which were invisible when installed.

Hi Dave.
Been talked about for years I did a big thread on the lower engine mount quite a while back, I presume you fitted this mount below.

These were the originals, they lasted anywhere from 75,000 up to 120,000

You could also fit the poly ones

Jag ones, but the bracket on the car needs modifying to stop the knocking of it.

Hi.---Was the pic of the one with the splits showing one of those two in your first pic ??


Mine looks solid but I guess I'll give it the screw driver trick just in case the splits are hiding.---

Hi Pete.
I would always recommend the original mount with the letter T on, but that as been compromised due to the tooling being destroyed or broken, so the mould for the 1.8 was used so I am informed, but at the same time most sellers of the original diesel T mount will tell you that the correct rubber composition as been used in them you/we have to trust.

Therefore I tried the above mount albeit not from the same seller, but they are all the same, it as been in situ now for 12 months and is performing well so yes you are able to use that mount if you so wish, if it had not performed ok I would have let everyone know.
