Default Big Big Problem.............

....for me anyway!

Following on from the "Paint in German" saga I have had to reformat and re-install XP on my "C" drive. All seemed to go OK, BUT....

My original setup was 2 HD's, one, "C", with XP Home Edition, and the other, "D", with XP Edition Familiale.
On startup I had the option to select one or the other.
After doing the re-install of XP on drive 'C", the select option does not appear. The "D" drive is still intact with all its files etc there, but I can't get onto it.

What has happened, and how can I get back to the original operation?

Mick

From personal experience, you may have erased the files required for the French version to boot up, as they will only be on one hard drive.

To check go to control panel, click system, click advanced tab then click settings under "Start up & Recovery". At the top will be a drop down box showing your default operating system, click it to see if French version is shown.

Another way to check is to uplug "C" & then start up PC, if you receive an error message then the Boot files are missing.

To cure the problem re-install French version without re-formatting "D" it will not remove any Data, but it will put the start up files in "C".

It may be worth waiting to see if one of the PC Pro members have a quicker solution, as I am sure you are just missing a couple of files.

Thanks James

boot.ini file had been overwritten. Added 2nd drive again, all looks OK.
