Thumbs down Bad news about DPF removal - MOT 2014

Very bad news indeed -

The Government have announced they are to change the rules on checking for the existence of a DPF if the vehicle left the factory with one fitted.

To take effect from February 2014.

See here for their Press Release of 4th December:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/n...iculate-filter

I reckon they will possibly look for the EGR removal/bypass as well.

We need to wait and see exactly what the VOSA eventually tell the testers.

They do not have a good track-record for quickly implementing changes.

diesel particulate filter, they regenerate themselves and if they dont they can coke up your car and wreck it, to regenerate them all is needed is to reach certain speeds for a while, to much city driving kills them

Well that's all good then.

I thought we had DPFs.

Sorry If my post put the wind up anyone.

We do have EGRs though - right?

Mine is on a shelf in the garage gathering dust.

Its the Diesel Particulate Filter thats fitted to modern diesels. The filter catches all the **** in the exhaust system creating low emissions which then means you pay less road tax, Yipee! but they block up and cost a ****** fortune to replace meaning you dont really save on anything! Thats my experience of DPF's anyway. Thats why I got rid of my diesel and bought a petrol.

Diesel forums are full of threads from angry owners with blocked filters.

Good to hear our diesels dont have them.

Some also have a container of 'wonder' fluid under the car that needs topping up about every 60k If you don't the car goes into limp mode..It also goes into limp mode if there's the slightest issue with it apparently..

Lots of unhappy campers, most of them seem to be on the French car forums though..
