Under Bonnet Pump. Length of life???
My mechanic thinks my UBP is a bit noisy and erratic. It's been on the car for about three+ years and prob covered 35K ish.. Is it likely to be kaputt?
Is it normal for them to sound rough-erratic? Reason for checking is, my car turned over a lot before starting this morning, that's not normal, so as the car was serviced yesterday I popped back to the garage for them to check. We found nothing wrong, but their lil ECU reader came up with lowish common rail pressure?? The car drives very well.. ... |

It's usual for the ITP to fail first. This puts extra strain on the UBP, which will eventually fail working alone. How long? As long as a piece of string. Noise is a typical sign that things are deteriorating. Does it have the quarter tank syndrome?

As TC said or maybe it's pulling some air via a leak somewhere.

No, we checked for leaks, both air in, and fuel out, but found nothing. Car ran fine on almost empty, I filled up at dinner time..
My only symptoms are, the car turns over a few/lot of times before starting, and that's most unusual for this car, and it's a bit worrying innit. ... |

Mine ran for at least 3 years on just the ubp. My itp wasn't working from the day I bought the car.

leaking injector.which will cause the low pressure reading on the rail.your pumps intank and underbonnet only feed fuel to the injector pump which then at high pressure does the rest.the noisy pump is a red herring as they as just explained do not feed the rail direct

If it transpires that the pump is noisy regardless keep an eye on eBay seller techniclutch if/when contemplating a replacement because the seller does the occasional sale on the pump. Indeed a sale is on at this very moment where the pump can be had for £32.24 delivered, but the sale ends today. Click
