RiP Sir Arnold
Just heard the news this evening that Sir Arnold Clark has passed away.
Placed this under touring ,boating as apart from being I believe the largest independent motor dealer in Europe his other passion was his yacht Drum. I met Arnold many times during my time in the motor trade and always found him to be very pleasant. He used to visit every dealership once a week but I'm sure latterly that would be impossible with the sheer amount of branches and of course his failing health. RiP Sir Arnold. |

I was at his home in 2014 to service the pressure washer, big house with electric security gates etcetera. By that time Arnold was I'll with dementia and all he did was watch cartoons, I was surprised he lasted so long. He was born in the Calton area of Glasgow just a street away from my late mother-in-law. He was well liked and I was lucky enough to get a good look at his many classic cars when they were in storage at McHargs a few years ago. RIP Arnold.

I heard that, I also heard he was quite a strict taskmaster of the old school, he Built his empire from nothing when motoe dealers weee recovering from the war , if you visit Scotland you can't miss the bright yellow sticklers adoring stacks of cars.
They don't make them like that anymore. Last edited by timspencer; 12th April 2017 at 20:17.. |

There is always criticism of dealers, I will honestly say they do try hard to train their staff well. They have a big training centre in South street in Glasgow, well worth looking at the facilities, they also do HGV & PSV training.
On a personal note I'd say I would have got a better deal from Arnold Clark than Parks with the Panda, for what I spent I'd have got a 875cc twin air Panda Lounge of similar age and mileage. Never mind I'm happy with what I bought though, just mentioned that I do believe Arnold does a better deal
