If it's done properly you really shouldn't have any problem with felt.

Lots of roofs 40 years and more old give no trouble.

PS. Off topic.---Your forum name.-- ( BigCul )---- Over here in France it means something rather Rude.---

because the insert naughty word council wont let me have a tiled apex to match the rest of my house as it will make my property exceed the 30 % extension allowance. They then then went on to say a flat roof was not in keeping with the house or surrounding houses. My wife said she was glad I had not gone to the council office with her as I might have jumped across the desk and grabbed the chap by the throat. They allowed a flat roof for size reasons.
Not everyone plans on installing a flat roof.

I'd like to know how this is going to breathe, is there vents on the new work? It will 0nly take 20% moisture to feed dry rot and that is something you don't need.
I was a roofer for 4 years and still do a few jobs.

Default Getting laid on the roof !

Blimey, Pete, thought you said it was just a leak ! Looks like an aircraft carrier that's been dive- bombed ! You can throw away the water wings and thigh boots now ! I'll see you shortly. Cheers, David

Not to mention another large crack in the offing.

Had ours re-felted a few years back, 3 layers to replace the single original layer which lasted ~ 25 years albeit with a few small leak repairs. The flashing into the wall was the source of every single leak, probably had the problem from the off but it only seemed to happen intermittently when the rain and wind conspired. Because of that recurring problem we insisted on lead flashing when the re-felting was done (original was just felt) and although it is more expensive I think that it will prove to be money well spent over time.

Well I went the whole hog and removed all of the flat roof on my garage, porch, utility room and kitchen, and replaced it with a pitched tile roof with breathable felt.

The work in progress shot prior to fixing the ridges......

You have to love the use of chipboard on roof jobs, as in Pete's original, how anyone can get away with using that as a substrate for a felt roof beggars belief

I won't be on this planet when it needs to be replaced next time

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Re-direct left in old. This may be the better forum as threads get ‘lost’ very quickly in the General Forum
