Default Replaced key cover now car won't start.

some time ago the open/close blip buttons on my car key got very tatty so I decided to replace covers, did this, now the car won't start and on the dash it shows "engine disabled" the open/close door buttons on the key work fine but nothing else
can this be sorted or is it dead?

I assume you changed the key case. Did you move the transponder chip to the new case. It is a small black chip inside the case. If I remember, it is under the remote electronics

+1

You need the transponder to be placed in the other key fob

The only thing I can remember taking out was the PCB with the batteries on the back.

It will be in the case itself. Have a look in the old case, but take care when removing the chip. Any damage to the chip may render it useless.

The chip actually looks like a small glass tube.
Apart from the circuit board you do need the chip as well.
