Default In car phone holder - ok to remove?

A 2002 connoisseur I've just bought has a phone holder (no phone) with a cable disappearing behind the horizontal heated seat switch panel.

Can I remove it without it upsetting anything else? Not sure if it was factory fit but doesn't look like a factory fit as the cable is squeezed in behind the panel. Was going to cut it behind the panel isolating the live wires.

Dealer did not remove. Why?

That's what I did with mine. The radio still keeps displaying a 'phone mute' message on the radio accompanied by a loud beep 20 seconds after key-on. I suspect I'll have to remove the wires from the where they begin to fix this...but I don't trust my electrical skills enough to attempt this yet!

My first zt had one and it's pretty easy to trace aback and remove without unplugging a great deal. I would guess that it is a nokia kit.

However that was with the uncoded Kenwood unit!

I didn't have the code for mine either. I didn't disconnect the battery...but I also didn't fiddle with many of the cables at the back of the radio to cause any problems. I made the assumption (rightly or wrongly) that with the car keyed off, none of the wires leading to the phone dock would be live. I'm still here to tell the tale so I assume that I was right (or lucky )

I now have the code so more confident to fiddle with. Spoken to half a dozen of these young mobile guys at boot sales. The consensus was dont touch. Older guy said just cut it but...............

There is a tel button (telephone?) on the symphony unit. Is this just an on off for a telephone? There is NO mention of the tel button in the handbook! It does however say that the telephone will turn off the radio/CD. As there is a speaker that has been put in behind the headlining, I think this must be a factory fit.

I can only think that the same will happen as in Sindel1 entry above in which case I can just stuff the loose cable end in behind the trim panel.

Mine too has a (Nokia) phone holder, and since I'm going to put in the new DD unit in a few days, I removed the holder and just cut the cable!!

What happened was no picture on my High-Line screen (sound ok), so be careful!
Anyone knows if there is a connector at the end of this phone cable, and will I reach it when I take out the old High-Line and the AC?

Want to get it completely out of the way when putting in the new DD

Cheers,
Frank.

Wink

OR! as an alternative , you could always buy an adaptor to fit into the cradle, thus enabling you to use the in-car phone holder for a more "modern!" style phone?
