Default Help: Locking Wheel Bolt Removal

Hi,
Can anyone sell or loan me the adaptor that you need to use to remove the 'Locking Wheel Bolts'

I've got the: 2002 Rover 75 Tourer 2.0 CDT 1950cc auto Club

NB: I've tried the adaptor from a 2004/5 model, but that doesn't fit, and it appears that the earlier models have a different type.

NB: I may (or may not) have one in my boot, but I can't open it at the moment, because my battery is flat, and my bonnet cable won't function, so I have to remove the front wheel to gain access to the bonnet cables.

Many thanks.

You need to establish exactly the type of key involved. Some models came with a McGard system shown below. This has a number of different key patterns and requires a code number to identify. They are available from Germany. Some tyre fitting depots carry a master set.

McGard system:

Other models use the splined key, which came in two flavours (No.11 and 12) differening by the number of splines. The number 12 is the most common, but it may be trial and error.

These sometimes come up on eBay, though the forum traders may have some.

EDIT:
The standard advice these days is to dump the security bolt, whatever type and fit ordinary wheel bolts.

Trikey has about forty two trillion number 12 locking keys, perhaps a slight exaggeration, but he has enough of them

Mac,

I have sent you a pm on your other post, if you still need help and I'm only 20 mins away from you?

Tom.

The tourer has an emergency tailgate release in the triangle cubby box in the tailgate, in one corner is a tab connected to a length of string, pull the string to release the latch.

Good luck, i had the mcgard things on mine. Ended up using a garage tool you battered over them and removed them that way. Was a great bit of kit, no damage to the wheel at all not a mark. Replaced with a standard bolt.

Thanks raykay
You mean: This is the 'cubby box' on the inside rear of the tailgate (eg: inside, behind the numberplate)
But I can't get to the tailgate-area, because I can't open the rear doors without power.

So it looks like my only real option is to use the cigar-lighter-socket to supply enough power to open the tailgate.
...see my later post: Is it safe to connect my car battery charger into the cigar lighter socket ?

Unless someone has the right type of 'Locking Wheel Bolt Removal adaptor' to sell or loan me.

I've tried to take some decent pics of the bolts, but this is the best my camera (or me) can manage.
Bolt_NS & Bolt_OS, but the latter looks different to me, (and that's the one I need to remove)

Bolt_NS:

Bolt_OS:

Thanks.
