Cool Loss of power steering fluid.

Banana has lost her power steering fluid. No idea when it has leaked from but suspect a pipe may have split. If I top the fluid up, with the correct stuff, will it be ok to limp home?

Depends how bad the leak is !

Remember to purge the system by rotating the wheels lock to lock several times.

Cool

Managed to get Banana home. Wrapped tape around the pipe. Re-filled with fresh fluid. Will try and look at some point. Got more important issues to deal with first.

My last two Rovers have had a leak on the high pressure side due to those speed hose clips loosening off, allowing fluid to leak where the rubber pipe meets the metal high pressure pipe. I've replaced them with Jubilee clips and had no further leaks.

I had the same on mine yesterday, but that was due to a split onnthe l p pipe side, and caused by it chafing against the crank pulley.

Default Limped

We limped home from Lincolnshire last summer when my V6 decided to have a leak near one of the metal / rubber joins on the steering pipe. Fortunately where visible. Amazing how far you can get with gaffa tape, cable ties and a couple of rubble plastic bags.

Cool

Well it's not leaking from the pipes, which I assumed. It looks as it is leaking from the pipe that goes to the steering rack.

But I phoned that very nice man in Sussex, Mike Stafford. And he will have a look at Banana tomorrow.
