Betsy Feb 1999-Sept 2019
Sad news this morning received from Anthony & Maricel about the sad passing of Betsy their S Registered Rover 75 in Zircon Silver and 18 years of proud ownership, with 82,086 mileage on the clock. It’s not all sad as Anthony & Maricel enjoyed many happy memories of going to the car meets and making many friends in the club over the years they had with Betsy. This morning Betsy was taken away for disposal and crushing. I know Anthony & Maricel spent a shed load in maintenance and repairs, they did their best. We send them both our condolences. |

What caused its demise? Was it th usual deep vein oxidation?

Although I wouldn't personally have been offering to buy the car (I have too many already, including the big Dorchester project... ), it's a shame when members of the club don't offer their vehicles for sale on here, rather than sending it to the scrapman
As a very early example, I'm sure it could have at least yielded some useful spares, or at best another member may have been able to get it back on the road ?

It just doesn't make sense Phil, you're saying the car was offered to someone on here for free ? But because that wasn't accepted, a rare pre-production S-reg is quietly sent to the crusher....another one of very few remaining cars gone forever
A simple advert on this forum, detailing all the money that had been spent, would have at least given someone to opportunity to save it from being scrapped and maybe even put back on the road. It just seems like such a waste of a rare model, especially when the owners were in this club Surely, being a member here is all about preserving the cars and keeping them in the road ? And in fairness, you have to expect to spend a few £££'s once a vehicle is approaching it's 20th birthday - I've certainly spent a lot more than that on S542AOX and I'm still nowhere near finished yet.

I am not getting into this about Betsy or about the member. He is a friend who asked me to post up on his behalf
