![]() To celebrate another milestone birthday, I wanted to do something different, but as the year progressed, the kettle beckoned and it was proving difficult to find the treat.
Done it today, performing aerobatics in a Pitts Special over Berkshire and trying several manouvres myself. [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() There would have been more pictures but I got fed up with trying to figure how to post them. A great trip and wonderful to try some of the twists myself. |

![]() Used to get air experience flights in the Air Training Corps, slightly asthmatic de Haviland Chipmunks back then, 1970s. The pilot asked what you wanted to do, after the first couple of flights I always took the aerobatics option. Strange thing is, first time in an airliner I was more apprehensive than I ever was in a Chipmunk

![]() Me too with the Air Training Corps and Chipmunks.
There are some manouvres which I had done in the past but things like hesitation rolls, flick rolls, stall turns and avalanches were excellent experiences, along with the standard loops and side slips. |

![]() Rather you than me. When I was doing my PPL stall recovery was enough to put me off aerobatics especially with a low wing monoplane - it's horrible!

![]() I joined the ATC younger than you're supposed to, my father (Police) knew the local squadron CO and one of the officers was a fellow PC. Had many special times in the ATC, summer camps at RAF bases in particular including RAF Luqa on Malta. Kinloss was exceptional, went on an 11 hour patrol flight in a Nimrod and a 9 hour patrol flight in a Shackleton out of nearby Lossiemouth. The Shackleton was something else, bang up to date WW2 technology with an overpowering smell of leather, rubber and hydraulic fluid
