Bought mine some 12 years ago. I'd always wanted one since the day they were launched, but very nearly didn't get one as my little Hyundai Accent was way more practical - cheaper tax, better mpg, cheap insurance, a hatchback, and, being a small car, very easy to park. I also believed the novelty of the Rover would wear off in a month or so.

A real heart V head decision, which the heart won .

Here she is, 12 years after purchase:

Still waiting for the novelty to wear off - she's definitely a keeper!

My ZTT has been my daily for over 6 years now and it will remain so indefinitely
Originally bought to help with our move to Scotland as a load lugger, had a quiet time when we first moved up here and did very few miles but, for the last few years, it’s been doing at least 40 miles a day.
It’s getting harder and harder to keep it in pristine condition whilst using it daily but, that’s all part of the interest in older cars for me.
Try and do all jobs on it myself and, so far, managed to everything apart from a new clutch
By doing things myself, it’s obviously kept the running and maintenance costs to an acceptable level, however, without this club and it’s very knowledgable and helpful members, I wouldn’t have tackled half the jobs I have

Along with my old 2003 Impreza WRX, the ZTT has been the most reliable car I’ve owned which, I believe, is simply down to regular preventative maintenance.

IMHO, this question of the potentially "increasing values" of our cars is going to turn out to be totally irrelevant for most owners. Even with time, 99% of the cars will not increase in their market selling price.

Cars only increase in selling price when when there are very few of them left and the ones in absolutely top condition combined with low mileage benefit the most.

Almost by definition, that is not going to occur until the majority have rotted away.

Just enjoy your cars whilst you have them - the majority will suffer demise eventually and will have no monetary value other than for parts.

I agree with some points that you have made, however IMHO it's not just rarety that makes something more valuable, it's desirability or demand. I know how it works in the classic bike world. Yes, cars like Teflon's will always be worth the most, along with "barn finds", very low mileage examples stored in garages. Then there is what I call the "sliding scale". Someone will think oh I quite fancy a Rover 75, a nice modern classic. Then they look into buying one and pass out at the price. So they set their sights a little lower and look for one that needs a bit of work. The initial outlay is lower, and they can afford to spend a bit each month on the car, spreading the cost. This "sliding scale" continues until people are actually buying piles of rust because that's all they can afford for the initial outlay. This method often costs more in the long run, but it spreads the payment (a bit like buying on credit). I have seen piles of rust for sale on eBay that would be grounds for divorce if I brought them home to my house even if it was the remains of an E type Jag or a Brough superior lol

good example

Agree with the prices going up as they get rarer.
I have three 75s and a zt.
Love the cars as no one over here has any and as there is less and less on the roads here, the prices have gone up.
Average decent 75 with 160,000 km is getting around $4-5 k aud.
Sure theres the odd one sold 2k but usualy a bit kf a heap with alot of issues.
As for reliability, i drive my 75 diesel 600km round trips to my holiday house in the southwest every 2-3 weeks and it has been great but the other day the alternator decided to die, but ill replace it and hopefully will keep being reliable.
Cars this age will need repairs so if done they shoold keep going .
Parts over here are getting harder, mainly panels and interior bits.
Engines parts on both versions , kv6 and the diesel are all available due to landrover and bmw sharing those engines.

Thank you . She was the first '75 I went to view, on sale at a local car dealership. At the time I had no idea about Monograms etc, she just turned up at the right place and time. Talk about lucky!

Cool

I use my 3 on a regular basis. Up until last Xmas my 1.8t was used as a daily that role has now been taken on by my CDTi. The 3rd car has come in very useful since I moved, she is used back and forwards to the tip, being a ZTT helps.

My 1.8t aka The Flying Banana is currently on 200,500 and only comes out for shows these days. Had her 8 years now but will never sell her. Brought me too much pleasure plus I have met so many amazing people. She has been on the telly, had a magazine article done, represented this club at the NEC and has been a guest at MG Live 90. Won countless awards.
But this has not come cheaply. We have had 5 HGF's, 2 split radiators, 2 steering racks but only failed one MOT, on rear arms.

My daily aka Redfive is a CDTi and is the second time I have owned this car. Bought twice from Ian Goldson, long story but I expect most of you know the stories. Redfive is on 152,400. I can get from Saltash in Cornwall to Barkingside in Essex and back on a full tank.
Sell her? Well I might if the right money comes along.

And my 3rd car aka Pooky Bear is a V8 400 ZTT. Very economical car if driven correctly, 26 mpg is possible however too much on the loud pedal will see it drop to 8mpg and you get to change your rear tyres after 4000 miles.
Sell her? Yes, but only if the right money comes a long.

Would I buy another one? Yes I would.

Default 2004 cdti conny

Having owned more cars than I can remember a few months back I was forced to sell a lovely Toyota rev 5 Mr2 as my health was not good , so once again on the hunt for another car what I did have in mind was a Mercedes 190E auto (Had 3 previously) so after weeks of looking and let downs at last minute, I went to look at one more and it was pants ! but by chance I had spotted a rover 75 conny Se auto diesel two owners from new and present owner had it from 2 years old , Was not sure about buying a 75 but sounded very nice and I was getting desperate , so went to see it and was amazed at how much car you get for little money and it looked near mint anyway deal done thinking this will do for now, And after couple of months driving it think I will keep it plus this forum one of the best for help and advice you could hope for
