I have no personal experience, but I know several Insignia owners who swear by them (all diesels of various ages). One 75 year-old owner regularly travels 200 miles to visit in N.Scotland, and says it's fantastic, returning 60mpg over the round trip. My 2003 Audi A4 Avant 1.9 TDi was a great car, apart from the seats, which had no lumbar adjustment, despite being SE model. It's the reason I got rid -for some reason they gave me terrible back and hip pain. The Rover on the other hand leaves me fresh and pain free, even on 350mile journeys to the south coast. But I won't have an Adblu diesel with a DPF. So I'd hang onto your Rover for now, and enjoy trying out the opposition, and read up what owners say about them on their forums - you'll find out what to look to for on second-hand ones.
