Default Failed MOT

Connie had her MOT today, I had minor concerns on a couple of points, but they were OK. Failed on something totally unexpected and a lot more expensive than I anticipated.

Bit of a dilemma, common sense says, cost of fixing car is worth more than the insurance value so scrap it, on the other hand, how do you put a price on something you love.

And before someone says I must save the car at all costs, as a pensioner on a fixed income, that's not always an option.

I'm certain I'm not the only club member whose faced this dilemma, so I would appreciate input from club members who've been in the same situation.

It depends whether somebody near you could help with the work to keep the costs down. What was it that it failed on?

What did it fail on? Message me if I can help, I'll do what I can if it needs anything I can stock.

Sorry to hear that Alan, what did it fail on??

I am rejoining the fold on Sunday, if you hadnt already heard

The tourer is a beautiful car, and you never know, it may not be as expensive as you think. And save you buying something else.

Quite right by what you say "you wont get another car you love as much" so if I don't resolve this and lose the best car I've ever owned, I'll give up driving and use my bus pass.

Hi, yes and as you and I both know as owners of Connie the Tourer, she is an exceptionally beautiful car. As for buying something else, out of the question, if I don't find a way round this I'll give up driving.

Only two cars I've enjoyed this much "Connie" and "Duchess" my 1968 Austin 1800 Landcrab auto.

Anyhow, intensive research tonight says the MOT station's part supplier mislead the MOT station.

Going back tomorrow to show my findings, hopefully will get the right result.

Bushes on both lower front suspension arms, his supplier said you need to replace the whole set up, not a lie, I saw his suppliers the quote.

So tonight I've sourced bushes without need to by the arms.

Going back tomorrow with diagrams and source of supply for bushes and hopefully get a review and revised opinion.

Little bit annoyed as when MOT's first came in my Father used them and since then the rest of family have, because they've always done their research. Sadly on this occasion, they've taken a suppliers word, if front lower suspension arm bushes fail, you need to buy the arms to get the bushes.

Hopefully I'll get a sensible review, watch this space.

One thing's for certain, the world would be a sadder place if it loses another Moonstone (sorry, couldn't resist that).

That aside, I've always appreciated your input Brian, sad that that club members oop North have lost your services thanks to an ungrateful few.

Here you go Alan

Offside

Nearside

These are manufactured by the same people as supply X-Part, and is exactly what I would fit to my own cars, and even a Moonstone car would see the benefit

They are not the cheap and nasty type that last a couple of years at best.

Tell your garage they are easier to fit on a four post ramp too
