Default Coolant Loss

Hi Folks,
My Facelift 1.8 Has A Very Slight Coolant Leak About Half A Tea Cup Every Hundred Miles Or So. I Know Coolant Loss Is A Problem And Want To Know If This Is Normal. There Are No Signs Of Leaks In The Usual Places No Mayo. I Dont Think Its Hgf, Any Thoughts

Keep an eye on it. The first signs will be water inside/under the oil filler cap, before you will notice any mayonnaise, initially small droplets of water.
The filler cap should be dry, if it is not, you have an internal water leak!
Otherwise outside leak, T-piece, water pump are spots to check.

Check water every day before you go!.

And when you know, there is a cure, whichever way!

Just Decided To Have A Closer Look, I Found A Pool Of Anti Freeze In The Casting Ridges On Top Of The Gear Box. I Tightened The Hose Clip Near To It Hope That Works, Anyone Got Any Idea What The Bleed Nipple Does That Sticks Out Of The Top Of The Gear Box On A Tube, The Pool Was Around This

Start the engine from cold in a morning and have a look underneath straight away whilst running. If it's the water pump, you will see a drip on the left (below the bottom pulley) I had this problem. It stops leaking once engine warms up as the seal gets pressurised. Worth a check. If water is collecting on top of the gearbox then it could be blowing out of the expansion cap when hot (particularly if you are over filling it) Try a new cap as these can also be prone to leakage. Get a garage to pressure test it - that will show up any split hoses etc. Cause will be something pretty simple - don't assume HGF and don't believe all the horror stories.
