MOT Headlight Failure
Last month my ZT-T Failed due to headlight aim too low on offside, wrong alignment on nearside. They could not adjust nearside told me to take it to a main dealer.
Had a look with them and found bulb was not seated properly. Take it the test centers are clamping down on headlight alignments. Other Failure was water damage in the number plate. Gone are the days when you thought it was all mechanical parts to check over. J |

A Local MOT Station is checking the spare Tyre Tread and if not correct failing car. (So don't leave it in!)
Their comment if its in the car it has to be legal is correct, but still I believe is not listed on MOT requirements. |

It is against the law to have a bald spare tyre and could lead to 3 points on your licenses if stopped and checked by the police or fail a MOT if checked by a garage.

Obviously wouldn't condone anyone for carrying a Bald Spare, and breaking the Law. I just had not seen a MOT station check it before and did not see it on list of things to check.
But as you say better to check it if someone has forget as police do check the spare on spot checks if carried! |

From the AA legal website:
There is no legal obligation to carry a spare tyre. It does not have to comply with the legal requirements while it is stowed away. A spare tyre is not a testable item in the MOT test, though the examiner may draw your attention to an unserviceable item as a matter of courtesy |

Thanks Ray, Though I dare say the Police would say if its on Board and a event occured you would use it so 3 points and Fine!
Thought that was correct about MOT though. Thanks. |

It's the 'using' that is the offence, you are not using the spare wheel, just carrying it. Although I suppose advice may be given, in the same way as the MOT tester that if you had a puncture you would use it and then the offence would be complete.

It seems that some kind of "road hysteria" about introducing all kinds of new duties and prohibitions and fines, gradually more and more absurd, is not only an Italian matter.
. Going on like this, in the future we will probably be heavily fined for having a screwdriver or little knife in the boot. You actually could use them, for example, to alter some engine adjustments related to air pollution or to cut some pipes of the braking system or even to harm or kill somebody... |

Recently my Mot tester has played about with my headlights which I felt were fine
I asked him why and he said each MOT must run for at least 45 minutes i.e one MOT operator can't start another one on the computer system until 45 minutes have passed that is to give them an incentive to do a thorough test and not just bang through dozens of cars a day at £45 a go. So they kill time by correcting headlights if slightly out and double checking steering suspension etc He actually said he would never charge to adjust the lights unless some dismantling was required to avoid a fail because that would effectively be double charging the customer for the time thay have already paid for. |
