Cool On this day, yes another one.

January 22nd, 1970; The first commercial flight of a Boeing 747 (Pan-Am) from New York to London takes place. The Boeing 747-121 that came to be known as known as Clipper Victor.

Unfortunately, Clipper Victor also became the first 747 to be hijacked, when it was taken over, and flown to Cuba on August 2, 1970.

And sadly, On March 27th, 1977, Clipper Victor ended her service in the horrific Tenerife airport disaster, when a KLM Boeing 747 commenced its take off roll at Los Rodeos Airport, Tenerife, Canary Islands without proper clearance from the airport's air traffic controllers, and collided with Clipper Victor before she was able to clear the runway.

On that day, due to the KLM Captain's impatience, 583 people were killed in the collision, making it the deadliest accident in aviation history.

Most interesting piece of history, Thanks Bob; in the absence of the much missed 'thank you ' button, of course. Most of us are of the age where we well remember that disaster.
