65 years ago today (22 Jan 1959) Mike Hawthorn, only months into his retirement after becoming Britain’s first World Drivers Champion, was tragically killed at the age of 29 in a car crash on the A3 Guildford bypass in Surrey, England

I remember it! In a Mk1 Jaguar if not mistaken.

I also remember it being a MK 1 Jag; and yes the Hog's Back section of the A3.

I heard a radio interview a few years back (possibly this time of the year) where the other driver involved admitted that they had been testing each other; not sure if he actually said racing. I believe the other driver was a team mechanic, from the Grand Prix World.
