Accessing fuel tank for draining - help please
Help please
I'm trying to access the insides of the fuel tank so I can drain it before removing it from the car (thread here) - there's around 2-3 gallons in the tank. To syphon it out I need to lift the in-tank pump out of the way (and presumably the filter in the other side?). T-Cut's post here describes making & using a special tool to undo the big pump and filter retaining rings but I don't have any welding gear to do that - so what's the risk of damage if I just tap/whack them round with a hammer & screwdriver? Or is there an easier way of draining the tank? PS. Haynes says you can't lift the pump anyway because the pipework inside the tank is holding it down (at least that's how I read it).. |
