Sainsbury's new flagship store at Southport has abandoned plans for a traditional petrol/diesel filling station in favour of an EV charging hub. https://standupforsouthport.com/new-...-charging-hub/

Those with petrol and diesel vehicles can respond by not visiting the store. That may in turn get the message across to management that they feel excluded.

If the store is in a convenient location, I suspect those with petrol and diesel vehicles will still use it.

Looks like they're going to be the biggest charging network in the UK called 'Smart Charge' which will be even bigger than the Tesla supercharging network

They have 1424 superstores & will be installing rapid & ultra rapid chargers up to 175kW.
They won't need to pay rent for the charging site like Tesla has to in many places as they own the land.

As supermarkets are fiercely competitive, I can see a price war on EV charging like they have for petrol/diesel.

Having been in business of one sort or another and responsible for making my own way, I thought I had seen enough of the entrepreneurial spirit and hutzpah to be going on with.

A new one on me, and in a spirit that tells the tale of both the search for the quality we on here continue to appreciate and the state of the market, we awoke early today (7.00am) to find two 6”x4” glossy cards stuck on my 75. One was under the wipers and another between the side window glass and the door frame, bright yellow with large black begging message inviting me to phone or email them if ever I decided to sell.

The Drive to the gate is around 60’long and the gates to the driveway have a quirk (by me) of being difficult to open unless you know the secret way to open them. They had been left wide open. The large standout messages (POLITE NOTICE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SELL THIS VEHICLE PLEASE CALL...ON...OR EMAIL:.). were visible some distance away.
What a damned cheek. I suppose he, she, or it would sell it for the price of a base EV. There’s no class today.

Morrison's is now joining the fray "Motor Fuel Group (MFG) and Morrisons have entered into an agreement which will see the market leading independent forecourt operator acquire 337 Morrisons petrol forecourts (including fuel, convenience retail kiosk and ancillary services) and more than 400 associated sites, across the UK – with many set to be transformed into electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs."

Blimey! They're all at it now ASDAs owners the EG Group have ordered 20000 superchargers from Tesla to install at their supermarkets & petrol stations & will be branded as 'evpoint'. https://www.edie.net/asda-owner-to-r...a-ev-chargers/

I'm not sure we have to get too excited as for the past 5 years we have all been saying there will not be enough charging infrastructure to accommodate the number of expected EV's. This news is just letting folk know things will improve. When this improvement will happen we don't yet know (the grid also has to be upgraded) and how much it will cost for a charge is another matter but at least with the projected number bandied about folks without their own charging point will have some form of access.

Tesco will need to go BIG or go home on rapid chargers, I'm looking forward to the charging tariff wars
