Default ZT trim strips - to buff or not to buff?

One of the body side trim strips on my monogram ZT-T has picked up a tiny scratch.
Now, underneath the paint looks quite shiny and I'm wondering if the strip is exactly the same chrome plated one used on the Rover 75.
Does anyone know for sure if this is actually the case or if it's just shiny because it's freshly exposed.
If it is chrome plated I'm tempted to buff all the paint off and have the strip match the door handles.
Has anyone done this?
What does it look like?
Are you happy with the result?
As I said, I'm really tempted, but I'm terrified I'll hate it & end up having to respray the strip.
HELP!?!

The sill trims (running from the front of the front door to the rear of the rear door at the bottom) are chrome but then overpainted.

The body ones (from the front wing, across both doors, to the rear 3/4 panel) are also overpainted.

If your replacing the sill ones - dont bother stripping them (it'll work and look good), just get some new ones for £10 from a scrapyard.

To be fair, with the amount of 75's being broken you could say the same for the waist strips as well!

ZT`s look superb imho with the MGR OEM side skirts fitted and as little chrome as possible!! Rimmers have a good deal on the skirts. I paid around £80 for the skirts and £90 to have my local body shop spray them. I fitted them took an hour.

I do like the look of those side skirts, and I see you've kept the waist strip the original colour.
I think the skirts might be going on the Christmas list

If it helps you to decide here is my Typhoon with chrome strips. It was like this when I got it but I do like it.

Sill strips are not chrome, they appear stainless steel which is highly polished. This is perhaps the issue with paint not adhering to them, perhaps a etch primer should have been used to key the surface prior to painting.

My sill strips were looking tatty when I bought mine, and I haven't decided what to do with them yet.. what's the easiest way to remove the remainder of the paint while I decide? Looks hideous on a black car having shiny patches

Mine were chipped to hell. Took them off & stripped them, and as Pab says, they're stainless. When they get pitted I give them a quick going over with some Duraglit.

Although I do fancy the side skirts, I've spent enough on it this year.

Do they just prise off then (with care)?
That would make like much easier if they do
