Default fire saftey tip

This does not consider security.
so you can exit your property quickly in the event of fire, leave keys in the door lock at night.

If not in the lock then I'd say within arms reach

I have always been safety conscious as far as fire is concerned, we live in a bungalow and I have had a large picture window taken out of the front and have installed two side openers, our bedroom leads onto a covered veranda through a patio door, I have also installed five smoke alarms and two Carbon Monoxide detectors. I absolutely hate Town houses they should never be approved, they are a death trap in the making, the same as tower blocks.

be careful though as some gangs go around with fishing rods and snag your keys and then draw them through your letterbox. they then gain access or take your car.

ALSO lots of doors have glass windows. Very easy to stick something over the glass, break the window with no noise the turn the key to get into the house.

Zero security.-----

even easier to take out the plastic panel of some PVC doors (allegedly). Also some doors have the beading on the wrong sides!

you can tick both safety and security boxes by find a location near the front door where you can leave keys that isn't in direct sight of someone peering through your letter box. the trick with fishing rods or lengths of wire being used is well known by police. they often pull in known criminals with rods in the boot but no other fishing equipment. police know full well what they use them for but can't confescate them as no crime has been comited. all I say is be aware...

We're fortunate to have a brick built porch with outer and inner UPVC doors.
I put my car keys in the lounge but wifey keeps hers on the shelf in the hallway. I insist she puts her car keys in an old metal toffee tin. Her house keys are always left with the exterior door key separated on the ring. Another tip, always shut the doors at night, may give you an extra few minutes to get out in case of fire.

Interesting.

Makes you wonder which might happen first.

1/ Get burgled.

2/ The house catch fire.

my daughter is a firefighter, went to an address on a shout. Door did not cave in but a panel at the side fell out, she put her arm through found the key in the lock and unlocked the door.

security and fire safety points both covered in one
