Tardis seems to be the most recommended product on Detailing World.

If it works like it does here in Leeds the people doing the work were probably contractors as they mostly are these days. The council will refer you to them as they have to indemnify the council for any claims.

You need to try something reasonable to clean the car yourself, white spirit or WD 40 probably being the quickest to get hold of. If they don't work you can fill the form in saying you have tried to clean it but not been successful so you need either a professional valet or respray.

I think you'll actually find you can clean it yourself but it won't be a simple wipe on then wipe off job. Make sure the general area is thoroughly clean then you can give a bit of a rub with a soft cloth to aid the tar softening process.

Same thing happened to me a few years back with my SD1 Vitesse.
I complained to the council roads dept. Next thing there was a small container of tar remover on my doorstep. I telephoned them back enquiring what this was for and they said to remove the tar.

I told them I did not put the tar on my paintwork and sure as ..ll was not going to remove it.
I eventually came to an agreement with them, where they gave a rather large container of the stuff which lasted quite a number of years.

As others have said, it will all come off with a little patience!

I always use Autoglym Tar and Glue remover and have had good results with it!

I've always used a petrol soaked rag. Tar dissolves instantly. Then repolish.

It will come off with patience and any of the solvents mentioned.

Panel Wipe is also good for removing tar.

No matter what you use you will have to wash down, polish and wax the car afterwards.

Here's one I did earlier:

I have always used white spirit, as others here have done. The only difference might be the type of 'tar' they are using these days. A couple of years ago, our local council told me they now use a water based, or at least non-spirit based tar, when they are tarring and chipping, so white spirit may not work. Environmentally friendly!!! Hope it all goes well for you anyway.

Petrol is the best for removing tar as when i bought my zt it had tar all up the side, it seemed to remove tar instantly, WD40 is also very good. my wheelarch liners is near off impossible to get tar off due to how much gets in there is so difficult i may buy some new liners.

Petrol is great for removing tar from the plastic wheel arch liners.

White spirit or WD 40 for paintwork.
