Hi , think it started earlier than your thread ...no need to apologise ...it seems to happen a lot ..starts a nice thread with links to nice subjects and then turns into a party polical rant...any way ill just watch the programme on I player and not read the thread from now on...cheers

There are so many points your larger post that I disagree with, but we would be here all week, and the world wouldn't change through this debate, its safe to say I don't share your views, but I do respect them.

For me its not just the money, tax or otherwise, that matters with car company ownership, its national identity.

German roads are full of German cars, French roads are full of French cars, Italian roads are full of Italian cars. The design of each reflects their identity.

Our roads are full of German, French and Italian cars, and they are at odds with British design. German cars are austere, plain, or harsh, French cars are over designed, busy, arty, but not pleasing to British eyes. Italian cars are chintzy, feminine, often tacky.

These cars don't reflect us and thats the real loss.

Loved the Georgian electric gates and Georgian CCTV.

Perhaps Britain has moved on...and its citizens too!? More cosmopolitan?

Perhaps, but not to the complete destruction of our own design. The public can no longer buy British mainstream cars. Our own cars show what Britain can do in terms of British design a design that won many awards, instead though we have an assault by 'uber' bland VWs or Audis and plug ugly Peugeots.
