I have sussed the problem, with such a small pond raised above ground level it got very warm, too warm to hold enuff oxygen for the fish, now I have dropped the temp by more than 20f the surviving fish is doing fine.

If the temp gets up to the eighties again, I need to add cold water every day, and blast it in so it adds loads of bubbles.. I doubt the pond holds 70 gallons, so I will have to be carefull of long hot spells in future..

First time this has happened in about 20 years though.

I'm afraid the surviver is no longer simply a fish, it is now also a Guinea pig... lol.

Put and air pump and air stone in. Mine is a 100 gallon raised pond and I have had no problems with temperature, even on the hottest day in direct sunlight. Dod the fish have any cover like lillies or rocks, etc?

Agree with this, the more water agitation the better, the best way to oxygenate the water. A relatively cheap and easy fix.

We have a large tropical tank, we lost two big (I mean BIG) Tin Foils when we moved the tank along here. There's no bath here, just a shower so they had to remain in the transport boxes while I set up and filled the tank. We would have lost more if I hadn't done "first aid", couple of them I had to hold in the filter outflow to revive them. They have settled but there's another, smaller, Tin Foil that's concerning us now, eating very little, seen it swimming upside down a couple of times. Treated the tank for internal bacteria and it has perked up a bit.

At least half the pond is always in the shade of the bush at it's Southern end, and there's a 5ft wall on the West side, so they rarely get/got into the sunny area..

I didn't see the surviver yesterday or today ------ And the temp has dropped to mid 70sf.

I am loath to go fishing for him with a net as he has had enuff stress, so will keep an eye out and hope he's OK..

As well as the shade from the bush, I also have two 14 inch long by six inch bore pipes the fish can hide in... Oh and two large mop heads..

I don't use any sort of spray, and haven't made any changes to the pond for years..

I didn't see anything that may have contaminated the water when fishing for the fish that died, and I can see the bottom of the pond quite clearly except right at the back under the bush, but I did check that area using a torch and it was clear and clean...

I'm pretty sure the water got too warm to hold the oxygen the fish needed even with the pump and cascade running. But it has never happened before in about 15 years..
