Default Tapping Thru Brake Pedal

As title says I had this tapping thru the brake pedal when braking.
A few weeks after that the brake pad light came on.
I changed the front pads and light went out but tapping still there.
The front discs seemed low so I changed them a few weeks later but tapping still there.
Any ideas?

Does the 'tapping' frequency vary with road speed?

Yes it does.
When I do about 5mph there is no tapping.
What do you think it is?

Are the mating surfaces between the disk and the hub real clean?
Do you have an ABS light at all?

I'd suggest a good look at the discs/pads/calipers. There may be something on a disc surface causing the pad to be struck every revolution. I doubt it can be diagnosed without servicing the brakes.

If it only happens at low speed it will be an abs sensor.

Check your alloys for buckles/flat spots,
I've lost count how many I've took to the tip this year with buckles/flat spots.
Got 2 new tyres the other day & both fronts have flat spots so will need to buy another set of alloys again.

For my education, is the reluctor ring the round silver thing at the back of the wheel bearing just inside the hub flange, or is it the dark brown/black ring that the sensor tip sits over (which I thought might be an oil seal) ?. Where should the sensor tip be positioned for the ABS to work properly ?

Cheers

Pete
