Default Common*sense*prevails

Peter sutcliffe has just lost his appeal and has been told he will die in prison .
What gets me is how it was ever considered possible he could ever be let out.
We recently had a guy who spent 40 years in carstairs (he murdered a cop , a nurse and a fellow prisoner with an axe).
He was let out as he was untreatable (odd don't you think) .

I think if it's been proven you killed some one you should lose your right to live also, why should it cost ex amount of pounds to keep these people when the chances are they get out someday and they are a risk to the public again, may sound a bit harsh but bring back hanging thats what i think

All sounds most reasonable...except it doesn't deter....murder rates were pretty much unaffected with or without capital punishment....

Hmm, the old "bring back hanging" thread, eh?

Two names: Timothy Evans, Derek Bentley.

Oi you the thread was nowt to do with that , grrrrrrr

Though to be fair yes I would have had the ripper hung for what he did .
Forensics have come a long way , I don't think your two cases would ever get court now.

Not supported by fact. The number of murders in the Uk through the 1950s & 1960s was 6.2 to 6.8 per million of population.Since hanging was abolished in 1965 this figure has steadily increased to 15.0 per million of population in the late 1990s. It may well have increased anyway, but not by more than 200%.

The point i was trying to make is the law has gone soft and needs to change or these people getting into crime will just get out of control and the things they do will also, most just see prison as a joke and somewhere to learn a new trade from someone that is worse than them, so they need to bring back something to make them think about what there doing before they've done it,as for the ripper he should have been hung years ago and now with dna and the such theres no getting out of it,
