Default cabin a bit fumey?

Hi, not sure if it's my imagination but i have a feeling that the interior of my car is a little fumey like the fumes are getting into the heating/ventilation system, I have no exhaust leaks so cant figure out why this could be?? or am I just dreaming this problem up?

any thoughts??

I am not sure if you are dreaming it up but I get that when the car is stationary but not on the move, I often put the heater on recirc though when in traffic to avoid sucking in fumes from other vehicles as some of them can be very nasty.

Sometimes I have driven behind certain vehicles and started to panic because I thought a fire was starting in my car but it was just the vehicle in front, there are some real problems in other peoples cars which they seem to be oblivious to.

Anyway if I was you I would just monitor the situation.

First thing to check are the breather pipes under the engine cover.

My V6 had this problem a while back, and this is what I found on removing the engine cover

And as you can see the T Piece had broken completely at the junction to the top hose

So I bought Part No: LLH102660
"Hose-camshaft cover to throttle body breather - 12mm - cam cover to throttle"

which cost £13.70 inc VAT from my local Rover dealer (They said the T-Piece on it's own was not available)

And once fitted you can see the improvement

So there you have it, and no more fumes in the cabin :kerstsmiley:

Out of interest, would this cause a problem starting as well?I've had teh fumes recently, and for teh first time ever today it took a while to start, as if it was out of fuel??

When it failed to start, was the engine cold or hot? Could be the camshaft position on it's way out.
What derivative do you have?

Default cough splutter

I say old bean, I do find this thread rather top-hole.

My recently purchased V6 (with real wood and embossed headrests don't you know - lets preserve the last of the empire while we may!) has been doing the dutiful quite the thing, but a couple of times the most appalling guff of oil/fumes etc has disturbed ones slumbers.

Well, I can tell you it caused quite a start - I actually had to raise my eyes to the road and I nearly choked on my briar. In fact I am sure I dropped some shag down my cravat - that simply wont do when one's on the way to the club (old Bassington-Smythe has the ear of the secretary don't you know).

Might have to slip Smithers a few folded ones to have a look when the weather clears!

2.5 V6 Auto.Struggled to start from cold this morning as if it was starved of fuel. Another cold start tonight and it was fine!

Smile Just joined

Very pleased to find this suggestion - I too have a bit of a problem with fumes in the cabin - when stationary and with the Air/con switched on. I will check my T thingy in the morning. Thanks - this has cheered me up as I love my old 75 and want to look after it!

...went out to venture under the bonnet today, and indeed my t-piece has been bodged with masking tape, and the pipe was disconnected from the engine at the end towards the windscreen, so i'll see how she is in the morning.
