Default rover 75 2002 connoiseur belt problems

Hi all, first time user.

Driving car and then squeal from under bonnet. Oily substance squirting all over belts. Alternator belt detached, just slipped off because of the oily substance. Oil was emmitted from low down off side of engine casing. Seems to have evaporated.

Does anyone know if this is likely to be refrigerant or coolant. Still have reservoir in power steering and engine oil is correct level.

Any help would be appreciated.

cheers phil.

Could be aircon pipe rubbed through?

Does the aircon still work? If the pipe has been punctured, all the refrigerant will have gone and it won't even run.

Check coolant level for signs of leakage.

It does sound like a rupture of the aircon system and that fluid would evaporate.

Normally the refrigerant has a dye in it to easily identify it but I'm not sure what would happen if it all came out at once.
