Default Paypal billing agreement :(

Just paid for something via paypal on line and looking at the small print It appears I had entered into a billing agreement with the company.
So, unlike me, I read the smallprint.
In short it allows them to take from my paypal account for this transaction AND future transactions for any amount !!!
As this was a one time purchase I was none too happy with that so had a look at my paypal account to see I have another billing account that was active with Stubhub. In effect it appears they could take any amount at any time from my account also.
Not sure I am comfortable with that so into my account, settings, payment settings, pre-approved payments, select the merchant and change status to inactive .

May help others

They were plaguing me to link my bank account to them to 'facilitate' additional payment methods and to give them additional direct debit options. It was about 6/8 weeks ago and I ignored them despite reminders. I already had a card verified attached so gave it no further thought.

Then realised that Paypal were splitting from Ebay to create a separate entity prior to floating on the stock markets, obviously the more bank accounts accredited increases the value to potential investors! Have now today had email confirming I have no bank a/c detailed or verified but can continue to use them for purchases. Very good of them!

Do what I do. Have a second bank account. My main one is used for my wages and proper direct debits. The second one is for PayPal. I keep less than £10 in it. If I buy anything using PayPal, I transfer the amount required into it, the Tenner helps should go miscalculated for postage etc.

If there is any unauthorized activity, it is easily noticed and rectified.

I have started using it for online transactions too. Transfer funds, then use the card linked to that account.

Had the same problem with sugar sink & pay-pal, they withdrew £99 for a years subscription. Again the fine print and a box ticked somewhere "allowing" them to do this. Complained to one and all, got a refund and unticked the box.
