EP Fault - ECU Failure?
For reference, the car is a 2004 2.0 diesel automatic
So yesterday the car wouldn't start - no warning lights, but 'EP' on the gear selector bit. book says 'emergency programme' due to a gearbox fault - though this seems to be working perfectly? Had the RAC out - seemed to know rovers fairly well, checked all fuses, fuel pump, gearbox, ECU, all sorts... unfortunately he could not get his fault reader to talk to the ecu. His verdict was although he could see no damage to the ecu, it must be this because when you put the ignition on, a lot of the lights do not come on (glow plugs, etc.) really not sure what to do next! Thinking send the ECU off (anyone on here that does them??) but not sure if there is something I am missing... Cheers, Mike. |

Just up the road you have Soul's of Olney and one of the foremost experts in the whole country working there (Phil-T4), posted on here earlier today and might see your troubles, if not give them a call.

Check the plenum for water, see if the Ecu has been wet. Also make sure the battery is good, try a reset to see if that fixes it.

There you will find a connector, of which pin 12 is is a red and white cable, temporarily connect a 12v supply to this cable, and see if the car will then start. Failing that, I have replacement ECM on the shelf for a plug and play replacement, and also offer a repair and testing service for these units. Best of luck Brian |
